Albariño and the sea: Rías Baixas in a day
Albariño grows almost within sight of the Atlantic, on granite pergolas raised high so the sea wind passes underneath. This is the day for the wine and the water together: the town that made the grape famous, a winery where the person who makes it pours it for you, an island of pine and spa hotels, and a fishing village whose granaries stand in the water. Winery and tasting
A producer in the Salnés valley, booked in advance. A walk through the vines and the cellar, and a tasting of their Albariños.
O Grove and A Toxa
The island, the shell-covered chapel and the views over the ría de Arousa.
Lunch
Seafood in O Grove or Sanxenxo, as you prefer.
Combarro
Hórreos and cruceiros at the water’s edge, the best preserved fishing village in Galicia.
Pontevedra
Old town, Praza da Leña and the Santuario da Virxe Peregrina.
Return
Back to Santiago, arriving around 19:00.
Frequently asked questions
Is the price per person or per vehicle?
Per vehicle. €549 covers up to 4 passengers and €749 up to 8; at eight, €94 each.
Is the winery included in the price?
No. We book it and you pay on the day, between €15 and €25 per person depending on the producer and how many wines you taste. Keeping it separate means you choose the winery rather than us.
Can everyone taste?
Yes. Your driver is working and does not drink, which is the point of doing this day privately rather than renting a car.
How far in advance do you need to know?
For the winery, two or three days. The rest of the day we can arrange the evening before.
Is this suitable with children?
Yes. The winery will give them juice or grape must, and the beaches and the shell chapel usually go down better than the wine does.
