How the day goes
Leaving Madrid
We collect you at your accommodation. An hour and a quarter to Ávila on the A-6 and AP-51, climbing the Villacastín pass.
Ávila
The walls seen from Los Cuatro Postes, the rampart walk if you want to go up, the cathedral built into the wall itself and the basilica of San Vicente. Then the palace quarter and the Mercado Chico square.
On to Segovia
A good hour on the N-110, skirting the mountains. Pine woods and open country most of the way.
Lunch in Segovia
A table booked in the old town, with time to eat sitting down and without watching the clock.
Segovia on foot
Aqueduct, Calle Real, cathedral, Jewish quarter and Alcázar. All on foot, with the driver waiting wherever you finish.
Back to Madrid
Return to Madrid. Back at the hotel around eight.
Frequently asked questions
How long is the day?
About ten hours, roughly 8:30 to 20:00. Two cities means walking: reckon on about 8 km between the two.
Are entrance tickets included?
No. The walls of Ávila, the cathedral and the Alcázar of Segovia are paid separately. We will tell you which are worth it and help you book them beforehand.
Is it too much for one day?
It is a long day, yes. It works because you wait for nobody and because lunch is booked. If you would rather take it slowly, we split it into two half-day outings.
Is there a guide?
The driver goes with you and gets you oriented, but he is not an official guide. Inside the walls, the cathedral or the Alcázar only accredited guides may explain; if you want one, we book it separately.
How many people fit?
Up to four people for 480 € and up to eight for 690 €, with the whole vehicle to yourselves.
Can it be done in winter?
Yes, and Ávila in winter is beautiful. Wrap up: it sits at 1,130 metres and is one of the coldest provincial capitals in Spain.
