How the day goes

08:30

Leaving Madrid

We collect you at your accommodation. About 50 minutes to San Lorenzo de El Escorial, with the Guadarrama ahead of you as you climb.

09:30

The monastery

We arrive before the groups. The basilica, the Royal Pantheon, the Library and the Chapter Houses. Afterwards a walk around the Lonja and La Herrería if there is time.

13:00

The mountains

We cross to Segovia over the Guadarrama. On a clear day we stop at the top for a moment: from the pass you see both plateaus.

14:00

Lunch in Segovia

A table booked in the old town. Suckling pig if you fancy it, and if not, there is lighter Castilian cooking.

16:00

Segovia on foot

The aqueduct, Calle Real, the cathedral, the Jewish quarter and the Alcázar. All on foot, with the driver waiting wherever you finish.

19:00

Back to Madrid

Return along the A-6. Back at the hotel around eight in the evening.

Frequently asked questions

Duration

How long is the day?

About ten hours door to door, roughly 8:30 to 20:00. It can be adjusted: if you prefer a later start or an earlier return, we trim walking time, not the visits.

Tickets

Are entrance tickets included?

No. El Escorial and the Alcázar in Segovia are paid separately and are worth booking ahead. Tell us when you book and we will say which ones are worth it and help you buy them.

Order

Can we do it the other way round, Segovia first?

Yes. El Escorial usually goes in the morning because it opens earlier and fills up later, but if you would rather have lunch in El Escorial we simply flip the day.

Guide

Is there a guide inside the monuments?

The driver goes with you and gets you oriented, but he is not an official guide: inside the monastery and the Alcázar only accredited guides may explain. If you want one, we book it separately.

Group

How many people fit?

Up to four people for 450 € and up to eight for 650 €, always the whole vehicle to yourselves. It is never shared with other clients.

Weather

What if it rains or snows?

The day works anyway, since almost everything is indoors. If the mountain pass is closed by snow we go round on the A-6 and the timings barely change.
